The Bailiff forms part of the court room range. He keeps an eye on Charlie during the trial. This stocky bird looks like he spends all his free time in the gym, there is no way poor old Charlie can make a run for it with this stocky iron pumping bird around. A Martin brothers inspired grotesque sculpture made in high fired stoneware, by Burslem Pottery, designed by Andrew Hull. Martin Brothers produced pottery between 1873 and1914, Martinware was described as art pottery, one of the earliest potteries making this, but in modern terms they fit better into studio pottery which was invented later.
Approx height 28cm.
