The town of Longton is one of the six towns that make up the city of Stoke on Trent. The vase shows some of the well known landmarks of Longton.  As early as 1756, a manufactory of English porcelain was established here, a ware of great lightness and beauty was produced. In 1759 the main road from Derby to Newcastle through Uttoxeter, was built which gave the town of Longton a boost when the pottery industry began to appear in the town a distinctive irregular appearance with pot banks lining the main street jumbled in and around the houses of the workers employed in the ceramic industry. Until the last decade of the 18th century it was known for coal mines and iron works. Longton which is situated in the extreme south of the district, is connected by the Stoke and Derby branch of the North Staffordshire Railway with the great trunk lines of England, so enjoys excellent facilities for transport purposes. Designed by Steve Shaw.

Height 25cm.
