This is a selection of our designed and sgraffito's vases. All our vases are hand-cast, then while the vase is still in the clay state, the design is drawn by hand. This drawing is then etched into the clay a method known as sgraffito. The vase then has its first firing, known as biscuit firing. It is then hand-painted with the various oxide glazes, the etched lines hold the colours in place. The vase is then fired in the gloss kiln. Using these techniques mean that our vases are each individual and unique. All the vases are made, drawn and painted by Tracy Bentley in our studio pottery in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the Potteries.
